Newsletter 27.02.2015

Dear Parents,

It was really great to see the children back at their enthusiastic and energetic self as they participated in Science Day. We have some interesting range of activities that children and parents all took part in. We had Floating Eggs, Magnet Painting, Invisible Ink, Milk and Fairy Liquid, Celery and Colour experiment, Baking soda and vinegar investigation. We set these activities up for 2 days to consolidate the learning that took place last Thursday and the children still continued investigating the magic these experiments bring.

All the children have been really engrossed discovering new learning from the activities that we have done, however there were a few who have shown great curiosity and enthusiasm by asking different questions and expressing their amazement about the whole experience.

To further support investigation and discovery amongst F2 children you might want to have a look at some videos of Sid the Science kid in YouTube. (please clink on the link to take you to one video)

We have also been asking more children to take home the All About Me Bags home. This is a good opportunity for the children to speak in front of a small group and talk about their favourite toys, books, photos etc. Kindly support your child by talking to him/her about the bag and what he/she would like to share with her friends at school.

Next Thursday 5th March 2015, F2 will go on a trip to the Fire Station. This is to further develop the learning that is now taking place in the classroom about fire engines and fire fighters. We will leave TX at 8.15am so please ensure that your child is at school at 8am. All children should come to school wearing their complete uniform. In line with this, there will be NO SWIMMING on Thursday 5th March 2015.

ARC (Animal Rescue and Care) volunteers will visit F2 unit next week.

Newsletter 13.02.15.

Dear Parents,

It's been an exciting end to the half term.  Please see below for all of this week's 'happenings':

Percy the Persevering Turtle
We have been busy looking out for children who have being trying really hard and not giving up when a task becomes challenging.  This week we noticed Pristine did not give up whilst learning to use the bats and balls in the big playground.  Well done!

Learning about Tet
We listened two traditional stories about the Vietnamese new year.  The first was the story behind the importance of pink flowers and the second was about why Banh Tet is eaten.  We also read different versions of 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff' since this year is the year of the goat.

The children have also been busy preparing for new year in our 'Tet home' role play area.  They have been cooking special rice cakes, ironing Ao Dai and decorating the blossom tree.

We hope you enjoyed the pineapple candy that the children made this week!  Please see below for notices and photos.

Happy New Year!

Ms Gurvinder and the F2 team.

Pineapple candy for Tet

Dear Parents,

Ms Nhat and the children have made pineapple candies for Tet. Children joined in with cutting the pineapple into small pieces, rolling them in syrup and wrapping them in baking paper. We would like to share these with all of you so the children will be bringing a few home today.

Please ask them about how they made it because we are certain that they will be happy to tell you.

Thank you.

Regards,
F2 Teachers

Newsletter 06.02.2015

Dear Parents,

We are very excited being at school this week as we have been doing so many things in and out of the classroom. The preparation for the Lunar New Year celebration have been on full swing this week as the children have been making dragon lanterns and 'banh chung' out of recycled boxes. Our role  play area have been very busy with conversations about what food to serve to families during Tet. Children have been cooking variety of food and have been decorating the 'house' with sorts of different flowers.

The 'Master of Learning' focus this term is 'Perseverance' and we have been looking out for children who don't easily give up on task. We have seen a few children showing perseverance on different activities that we have been doing at school and we hope that they continue showing their best and being brave on trying new things.

We have started asking children to bring home the 'All About Me' bags home for them to share things about themselves with the rest of the class. This is a good opportunity for the children to develop their speaking skills and their confidence to be in front of a group. We encourage parents to help their children choose an object they would like to bring to school and also talk about them with their children so that they are prepared to speak up.

Children have been playing a sound matching game through this website . Please have a look and enjoy playing with your children.

Thank you as well to all the parents and carers who participated in our Activity Day last Thursday. I know you will all agree with me that it has been great doing activities together with your children!

Just a few reminders about what is going on at school next week:

* The TET celebration will be on Thursday 12th February at 8.30am. All children should come to school wearing a traditional Vietnamese dress or Ao Dai.

* There will be NO SWIMMING on Thursday 12th February.

* 'All About Me' bags are taken home by Nghia and Michelle.

* School will close for TET Holiday on Friday at 2,30pm. Please make sure to pick up your child on time.

Thank you and have a lovely weekend.

Regards,
Ms Grace and the F2 Team
