Newsletter 31.10.2014

Dear Parents,

5,4,3,2,1... Blast off!

A 'Space' role play area have been set up for the children to come and play in. They have been using torches to look at stars and they have also been riding the rocket to go to the moon. We have also been reading the stories 'Whatever Next' and 'Roaring Rockets' and have enjoyed the adventure of going to the moon with each character in the book. Ms Gurvinder prepared a box filled with objects from the story and children independently created the scene based on the book that she had read with them.

At the beginning of the week, children joined in with Ms Grace to make 'moon rock' and star cookies. They have learnt what ingredients are needed to make cookies such as flour, butter, eggs and sugar.

Outside, we have started doing an obstacle course where we have to jump into hoops, crawl in the tunnel, roll over the mat and balance on the beam. It was real fun!

I have uploaded a video of Mr Robbie and the children singing a song '5 Little Men in a Flying Saucer'. I hope you can sing the song together with your child at home.

Have a lovely weekend!

Regards,
Ms Grace and F2 Team

Newsletter WE 17th October 2014

Dear Parents,

It's been a busy last week before the half term holidays!  The children have been enjoying reading different versions of Jack and the Beanstalk.  Hannah brought in a big book and then I also shared a different a different version.  Ms Grace has also been sharing Carrie's book 'Frozen' with the class.

In Maths, we have continued to focus on shapes.  This week, the children made some shape collages with me and focused on the four basic shapes from last week's shape hunt as well as a semi circle and diamond. Come and have a look at our display!

In the big playground and soft play room, we have been working on catching and throwing a big ball.

This half term, we have been focusing on 'Katy the Caring' Dolphin.  All the teachers have been trying to 'catch' the children showing their caring sides towards their friends, teachers and classrooms.  Based on this Xavier and Caleb were chosen to be 'Masters of Caring' and received a special certificate.  Look out for their photos in a special display in the foyer.  Next term, we will be focusing on 'Barnaby Bear the Global Citizen' and 'Shaun the Enquiring Squirrel'.  More details to follow next term.

Next term, we will begin by exploring Space.  Lots of children have really been enjoying playing with our space station, astronauts and rocket this week.

Next week is half term.  We will return to school on Monday 27th October.  Please send us any photos of what you get up to in the holidays.  It doesn't matter if you go somewhere or stay at home!  The children love to see their photos in the Holidays Book in the book area.
Our new Maths display!

It was Hai Nhi and Kiet's turn to share their weekend news.

Thank you for all your support this term.  Have a safe, relaxing holiday.

Newsletter 10.10.2014

Dear Parents,

The 'F2 Fashion Plaza' has been doing well with customers in the classroom. We have a good range of fashionable items that the children can choose from and prices are very reasonable too!

It was lovely to see how much enthusiastic the children were in creating a clothes shop atmosphere in the classroom. We have had really helpful cashiers and sales staff waiting to lend a hand to every customer in the shop. They have also been using a variety of vocabulary such as 'trousers', 'dresses', 'shirts' and also learning concept of size (small, medium and large) and counting money (£-pounds) to pay for the items they bought.

In the classroom, children have also been developing their fine motor skills through the use of squirt bottles to wash the shaving foam off the rocks.

Outside, children have been introduced to new resources such as the 'Musical Centre'. They have been making lots of different sounds using the instruments that are available. Some children are learning to balance themselves onto a bucket stilts as they walk around the playground.

In the splash pool, they have been using the kickboards as they also learn to use their legs to kick in the water.

Have a lovely weekend.

Regards,
Ms Grace and F2 teachers

REMINDERS:

* We encourage parents to put photos of their children's activities over the weekend into their children's blogs. We share these photos with the rest of the class and print them off as well to put in our Holiday Photos Book. Please let us know if you are unable to access their blogs so we can fix it.

Newsletter 03.10.2014

This week has been extra special with all the activities we have been doing for Book Celebration. Children all looked colourful and lovely in their costume parade last Monday. Even teachers joined in with the celebration by dressing up as characters from the very popular book The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We also had Mr Adam Bushnell in the classroom telling stories about the wolf and other animals that he had encountered. Children were very much engaged during his visit and was imitating all the sounds the animals make. We finished the book celebration with a Snuggle up and Read which the children enjoyed doing.

In Music, Mr Robbie and the children enjoyed making different beats and rhythms using the drums. Children showed great enthusiasm and are more focused in his class.

F2 have had a chance to visit the Book Fair and it was a fun experience for them to choose which book they want to buy.

We are setting-up a new role play area in the classroom and we hope that it will gather the same amount of interest and enthusiasm from the children once it is all done and up and running. I have already emailed parents about the items that we need to enhance the role play area, kindly bring items that we can use.

Have a lovely weekend.

Regards,
Ms Grace and F2 Teachers
